MSK Economic Restructuring Committee Goal: To retain and strengthen

existing Kingwood businesses while attracting new businesses to the downtown area.

Þ      Began talks with Camp Dawson with regards to retaining present businesses, diversifying present businesses and recruiting new business based on a partnership between MSK and Camp Dawson needs. Meeting between General Tackett, Camp Dawson  and MSK scheduled for January 14, 2004

Þ      Bishop House closing February 1, 2003

Þ      Voted to sell  Dunn/Evick Building (Closing 2004)

Þ      Recruited two business to Price Street

 

 

MSK Design Committee Goal: To save Kingwood’s unique character while

preserving Kingwood’s heritage.

Þ      Received carry-over moneys of $71,500.00 for Veteran's Plaza

Þ      Developed $500.00 Matching Sign Grant Program

Þ      Purchased new banners for fall

Þ      Began working on upgrading lamppost hangers for baskets/banners

 

MSK Organization Committee Goal: To ensure an adequately funded, expertly

managed organization.

Þ      Director and members spoke at various civic organizations

Þ      Developed fundraising activities with a goal of $5,000.00,  actually raised $12,000.00

Þ      Sold Bishop House - received $50,000.00 donation to program

Þ      Won WV Organization Committee of the Year for Small Communities

Þ      Sponsored Crystal Ball

Þ      Began work 2004 Home Expo

Þ      Developed Website

 

MSK Promotions Committee Goal: To rebuild the pride of our downtown and bring residents, visitors and tourists back to the downtown.

Þ      Heritage Day,  May 10

Þ      Street Fair,  June 21

Þ      Christmas Parade and Toy Giveaway,   Dec. 7  (Thanks to organizations, business and individuals $2,000.00 was raised to purchase toys for community children)

Þ      Developed first ever Merchants Holiday Gift Certificates

Þ      Outlined buildings and trees with white lights during the holidays in historic district

Þ      Holiday Banners were hung and greenery adorned the lampposts

Þ      Second annual Holiday shopping and historic tour

Þ      Victorian Tea held at Bishop House

Þ      Christmas tour of historic buildings and churches
